Oh Happy Sabbath
One Sabbath evening in March of 2021, as we were welcoming the seventh-day Sabbath as a family, my father suggested that we compose a Sabbath song that would describe what we do throughout the Sabbath day. This would help others have a better understanding of how to keep the Sabbath day holy. Everyone cheerfully agreed, and so after we prayed, I sat down at the piano and started to create the melody.
We also decided to write the lyrics in a musical meter (5.7.5.7.). (If you didn’t know, musical meters are usually found in hymns [6.8.6.8, 8.6.8.6, etc.] and can be found to the right of the page, above the name of the composer.) Writing the song became a part of our family worship on Sabbath and brought us closer together. Almost everyone in the family contributed to the lyrics. God blessed with wisdom, and soon we were sharing it with others. We learned a lot from this song, and we pray it will be a blessing to you!
